Nicaragua Jinotega - Speciality Coffee Beans

A deep, chocolatey with notes of raisin and apple, this coffee is great as a milky drink.

These beans have been medium-dark roasted. You’ll taste a creamy, strong coffee with distinct notes of raisin, chocolate and green apple. We've specifically roasted this coffee to work amazing as an espresso or milk based drink, perfect for a Moka pot or home Bean 2 Cup machine!

This coffee comes from Aldea Global, who are firmly rooted in Jinotega. Speciality coffee production in the region is a big focus, with not only 60% of all Nicaraguan speciality coffee being grown here, but 60% of the country’s vegetables. The largest Small Farmer Association in the country, they provide services for coffee, fresh produce, credit, as well as having a foundation that supports sustainable, environmental and social development programs in the communities their members live.

Around 40% of their total coffee offering falls under Fairtrade standards from 4,000+ farmers. They also offer RFA, Organic and Utz certifications. The coffee is shade grown, and their focus on quality began back in 2002 when they won first place in Cup of Excellence. They are currently using machine learning as an opportunity for growth, differentiation and sustainability, providing innovation and technology to the 20,000 agricultural producers (not just coffee). This gives producers analytical solutions and data science tailored to the productive sector in Nicaragua.

I love this coffee - so much so that when I’ve emptied the bag I leave it lying around so the aroma fills my house!
This coffee tastes very good with or without milk and has a rich chocolatey flavour. I plan to keep on ordering it !

Another tasty coffee

Tried the Nicaragua Jinotega as a change up from my normal choice. It was really tasty and made great tasting espresso and aeropress.

Since I lost my sense of taste some years ago i cannot give a review on taste. But i get good service from Copper Coffee Roasters and do enjoy a cup of coffee.

Nicaragua Jinotega - Filter or Espresso?

We first tried it as an espresso in flat whites. Had to grind very finely to get a 36g shot from 18g of beans in around 30 secs. Taste? Quite frankly, rather unpleasant. Tried it the following day as a 20g dose at a coarser grind in an Aeropress. Taste? Actually, rather nice. The raisin and apple came through. I'd buy it again as a filter coffee but not for espresso.
